Hello December, a month that brings us to the year's end...
The past month as a new family of 4 has been so full! After being humbled the first week and realizing how basic and slow I had to start my recovery, I’m using my own reminders of starting small. I've been returning to movement and breath basics through:
- ABCs (alignment, breathing and core connection)
- gentle rehab and recovery stretches
- rolling to release tension that builds up from feeding and holding our cute baby
- and mindful rest practices as sleep is interrupted and the days can be long
While this is all extremely important in postpartum, it’s also significant for all of us during a time of year when holidays are busy, travel (or hosting) tends to pick up and self-care or movement practices get put to the side.
Starting small, and simple, has been so helpful for me. So, my goal this week is to start with 5 minutes for most of my days. If I have time for more that’s great, or if I practice every day, amazing! But even 5 minutes feels supportive and being kind to myself in my expectations helps set me up for success.
What can you try to do now instead of putting it off to the new year?
This month's feature:
We are all good at creating upregulation, especially during the holidays... but we often need support in practicing downregulation. Self-care at this time of year is so important - the best tip is to start small, a little goes a long way when done consistently over time.
That's what this course is all about! Full of restful recovery practices like rolling and gentle yoga, you can discover the true strength and healing of rest.
Try it right now:
pause
now take 3-5 breaths with the exhale slightly longer than the inhale
pause, slow down
can you sit back, close or soften your eyes?
what about your mouth and jaw?
pause and stay here as long as you need

JUST FOR YOU:
A few Self-Care Resources to help you rest & recover this season!
This resource dives into 5 cues to enhance your practice of recovery and regulation, the ability to move through different states in order to adapt and not be overwhelmed, stressed or anxious.
Upregulation is when the nervous system is more active and intense. Conversely, downregulation is when nerve pathways calm down, helping our bodies to soothe and relax. Use this throughout your day or as a full, extended practice.

“ You have been waiting for you to lie down, get tucked in, and say to yourself that's enough for now.
No one else in the world can say that for you.
Besides, you would not believe them.
Soften your gaze
Take a full breath
Release your shoulders
again and again
Tell yourself what you most need to hear. Give yourself permission to rest. ”
