Year End Slow Down

Hello December, a month that brings us to the year's end...

The past month as a new family of 4 has been so full! After being humbled the first week and realizing how basic and slow I had to start my recovery, I’m using my own reminders of starting small. I've been returning to movement and breath basics through:

  • ABCs (alignment, breathing and core connection)
  • gentle rehab and recovery stretches
  • rolling to release tension that builds up from feeding and holding our cute baby
  • and mindful rest practices as sleep is interrupted and the days can be long

While this is all extremely important in postpartum, it’s also significant for all of us during a time of year when holidays are busy, travel (or hosting) tends to pick up and self-care or movement practices get put to the side.

Starting small, and simple, has been so helpful for me. So, my goal this week is to start with 5 minutes for most of my days. If I have time for more that’s great, or if I practice every day, amazing! But even 5 minutes feels supportive and being kind to myself in my expectations helps set me up for success.

What can you try to do now instead of putting it off to the new year?

This month's feature:

We are all good at creating upregulation, especially during the holidays... but we often need support in practicing downregulation. Self-care at this time of year is so important - the best tip is to start small, a little goes a long way when done consistently over time.

That's what this course is all about! Full of restful recovery practices like rolling and gentle yoga, you can discover the true strength and healing of rest.

Try it right now:

pause

now take 3-5 breaths with the exhale slightly longer than the inhale

pause, slow down

can you sit back, close or soften your eyes?

what about your mouth and jaw?

pause and stay here as long as you need

Online Courses can be a great alternative present! Similar to experiential gifts, purchasing an Erin McCabe Wellness course for a loved one will give them a lifetime access to self-care healthcare, showing your care and encouragement for them to be the best version of themselves.

In addition to Roll, Rest & Recover, below are some courses that can bring a sense of peace and calm to your holiday season - and who they may be a great gift for!

A few Self-Care Resources to help you rest & recover this season!

This resource dives into 5 cues to enhance your practice of recovery and regulation, the ability to move through different states in order to adapt and not be overwhelmed, stressed or anxious.

Upregulation is when the nervous system is more active and intense. Conversely, downregulation is when nerve pathways calm down, helping our bodies to soothe and relax. Use this throughout your day or as a full, extended practice.

You have been waiting for you to lie down, get tucked in, and say to yourself that's enough for now.

No one else in the world can say that for you.

Besides, you would not believe them.

Soften your gaze

Take a full breath

Release your shoulders

again and again

Tell yourself what you most need to hear. Give yourself permission to rest.

Erin, husband Matt and new baby Liam are ready to head home!

Hello, here we are in November! It is with a full heart that I share big joy and love right alongside grief and surrendering to life as it is. We welcomed Liam Girard to the world on Saturday November 9th at 12:11am. Our delivery ended in a different way than I hoped and was extremely difficult on my body. So now, I’m really practicing slowing down, accepting help and generally focusing on healing in these early day and weeks. My heart is full as my body and psyche are starting the road...

Hi Reader, Tomorrow is the fall equinox and I'm definitely feeling the shift as the light and leaves change, though we did get to soak up summer until the last drop with warm sun and warm temps! I hope you are savoring the abundance this season is bringing and are feeling grounded as we get to the equinox and really shift into fall. I loved this post on Instagram from Katherine May the other day and especially love the slide that says: If you would like to join a practice to support this...
